Beta pushed to 2010, release expected at Q2 | Nov 7th 2009, 07:54pm | |
|
Two days ago, the biggest Russian gaming expo IgroMir began, which was also attended by Blizzard representatives. During the event, StarCraft II was available to the public and a panel by Chris Sigaty, lead producer on StarCraft II, was held. The Russian gaming website Goha.ru wrote a summary of the panel. Currently, there is no official translation of the information and the majority of it is merely a recap of what was said during BlizzCon earlier this year. However, Sigaty has confirmed that the StarCraft II beta has been pushed back to 2010.
An official recap of the information from IgroMir will be revealed on Blizzard`s official IgroMir website at a later date. Source: Goha.ru In other news, Morhaime revealed to the Activision Blizzard investors that the game was still set to be released in 2010, expect it towards the end of the second quarter. Furthmore, Morhaime said that the bulk of the work on the game has been completed and that the project was still going according to the intended timeline. Special thanks to Arangarx (and his wife) for the translation! Source: Compulenta.ru |

What no way! this is absurd. They don't give the community any updates on their progress and than go drop this bomb. There is going to be a lot pissed of SC2 fans now if this true.

What beta pushed to 2010!!?!!???! Now I'm really pissed! I mean, come on Blizzard the game is as good as ready for release and you won't even give us a damn beta. Would it really hurt to release the beta now? What can possibly go wrong if you do it? A longer beta is never a bad thing... Really what the hell Blizzard, I'm really sick and tired of waiting and I bet a lot of other people are too...

I am so full of rage/madness right now, You cannot see my anger.
Edit: I was at work and I got caught in the act of seeing this post, so you can just look here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTXSIxWbumo Edit 2: I translated the interview. Yay me! Is the lead producer of Starcraft 2 Chris Sigati. The main topics of presentation: * Significant improvement of the basic game features the original version * Expanded campaign with a new approach to a single game in the genre of real-time strategy * A revolutionary approach to Battle.net * The most powerful modifier games The first thing to note is the new three-dimensional graphics engine that supports the stunning special effects and enable you to display enormous military units and numerous army. In a game added to rendering shadows in real time. Reworked many units. Zergling performs the same function as in the original game, but added the possibility to transform them into Banelings. "The Queen" of the Zerg flying spelkastera become a ground protective unit. Also, the completely new units. For example, Corruptor, zerg air unit. Zerg are taken only for example, the changes also affected the remaining races. Key features of the game: the new objects on the map and the new features of the user interface. Added new high-yield minerals, watch towers. Single-player campaign. We are a completely new set about creating the campaign. The player is given the opportunity to explore the world, interact with the characters, to influence the environment. Between missions, you can talk to the NPC, read about the story from different sources, to study technology and much more. Speaking of technology: to develop some direction should be, depending on the style of play. If your hobby - infantry, then come to the aid of technology giving bonuses infantry defensive style game will support technology-oriented protection. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty In the story the game begins four years after the end of the action occurring in the preceding paragraph. You - Jim Raynor. Your path will depend on what decisions you take and what things you see. The plot is fully nonlinear. Battle.net. New principle of "always online". Login screen StarCraft 2 now looks like a hair-just like any MMORPG. From now on you will play with equal rivals. Within Battle.net will be introduced so-called "League", by analogy with sports. Initially, the player gets to start the league and must earn enough points for next season, along with leaders of the ranking to rise to the level above. Thus, markedly reduced the probability of hitting a newcomer to the hardcore player. Chris joked that he himself does not matter plays in the original StarCraft, as in Warcraft, and other toy companies, and its rating on Battle.net has always left much to be desired. The new system will allow him to enjoy the game in his league. Achievement System (achivements) in the game is a set of special conditions under which the player gets points. An example of such conditions: Build 100 Marines, destroy enemy base, etc. One possible application points are avatars for the player. There are also special markings which when activated will appear on your units and buildings. Communicate with friends who play other games from Blizzard, - a new feature Battle.net, which allows to arrange a chat while in different games. Powerful game editor from existing ones. Blizzard put a lot of forces in the fact that the editor of StarCraft 2 was a new word in the industry. Chris shows what their new offspring. Using the editor made FPS! What can you say - you can even create a platform arcade! left to right: J. Allen Brack, Mike Elliott, Chris Sigaty Questions and answers. Q: When will StarCraft 2? A: Tomorrow (laughter). Of course not. Usually Blizzard we're not talking about dates. While we plan for next year to do a beta test. As soon as we feel that the game is released we will release it soon. Q: Would it be possible to play in a single company without connecting to Battle.net? A: Yes you can, but you will not get achievements. Q: As far as is known for each race will be on the game. How will they be different, some different concepts? A: All three campaigns are linked by one story, but each of them self-sufficient. |

Thanks for the news update, Tom! To be quite honest, this does not surprise me at all. I speculate they may have ran into a few snags that caused to push the beta to 2010 Q2. We should at least be thankful for them to update us on their estimated deadline, and like Mandos said, they may still be working on b.net 2.0, and blizz said they won't release beta till its done. Ain't nothing we can do about It either, cept either twidle our thumbs or stick them up our asses till It comes out.

I would like a reason for this. I'm not sure I deserve an explanation, but I would like one. I guess that means I don't have to quit my job for a while.
