So here's a thought, why not try moving detection from the photon cannon to the pylon, here's why, it's a reason to take out the pylon before the photon cannons, it could make for some new tactics, it would be easier to defend, against cloaked units in the middle of a protoss base, it would mean that when building a defence, you would also have to build some pylons

I say leave it to the photon cannon. all defense structures are deployed with the ability to detect, and adding it on the pylon seems like nothing changing, except you keep your pylon surrounded so that the cannons can still see. If you do get the pylons to detect, would the warp prism be able to detect?

They took out the ability for Overlords to detect for a reason and that reason was not to give the benefit of 10+ detectors in your base to another race.
Stop Constructing Additional Pylons!

not sure if you noticed but all cloaked units are harder to get now in some way, and c'mon the pylons? why not make all the protoss buildings detectors then. pylons are suppose to be weak spots that's why the HP and SP went down 100 easch tno one is about to make them detect especially since overlords can not detect in sc2

Why would you give detection to the most abundant protoss building?
May as well just make protoss completely immune to any attack by cloaked units.

How are you planning on building ANYTHING without pylons? Do you know what pylons do?! NO! They even took detection away from overlords... now they'd give it PYLONS? Forget it! Cannons are imba already since they detect AND attack ground and air... Turrets and spores only attack air so you'd need to build a sunk and a spore to say defend against Dark Templar harass as zerg and Turret and some units (and bunker) as terran... If you still don't understand why it's a horrible idea, I'll explain why... oO |

dark pylons should be detectors. people have 10+ cannons in base for mutas and shit anyways.

Why would I want to give enemies even more reason to completely ignore my cannons and go straight to the pylons instead?
I would rather believe in the merits of rational inquiry than the mercurial favor of an intangible sky wizard.

Perhaps what he was essentially getting at wasn't necessarily that pylons should detect, but instead that photon cannons should not; since they already are basically the most useful tower. Making a pylon a detector is pretty much a bad idea. However, if there was a different structure, which was not a cannon or a pylon, then protoss would not have as easy of a time detecting stealth units.
This might be too much of a request though (a whole new building). So instead, how about needing to upgrade photon cannons to detectors individually or as a global upgrade? This would be a similar mechanic to that of overlords/overseers and might be more balanced. |

uh. no way. Protoss Pylons are the most abundant buildings and giving detection to them would be way way cheap. It's similar to the SC1 overlords, and Blizzard doesn't want that.

Blizzard likely moved detection to the Overseer from the Overlord because having detection on Overlords made it impossible to use any sort of cloak against Zerg. This idea would be like turning Pylons into the BW Overlord except they don't move or transport. Too much detection in my opinion, and I play Protoss.
