Protoss Unit Review (Blizzcon 2008) | Oct 15th 2008, 07:00pm | |
|
Most of you may be aware that Miles and I attended BlizzCon 08. My favorite race just so happened to be the Protoss which is why I was appointed and chose this assignment. The information I will be telling you will hopefully answer any questions you may have in mind.
Other Blizzcon Reviews - Terran Units - Protoss Units - Zerg Units Immortal - A Stats via Game Guide The first useful thing about the Immortal is that it's one tough momma. It has 270 HP, and 80 Shield. A group of Immortals are very affective to bring down not only small/light biological units, but they are even better when they are up against heavy duty units, such as Tanks or Ultralisks. Many of you are aware of the Hardened Shield ability that grants the Immortal powerful defenses against ultra attacks. This is why the Immortal is awesome; It's great against infantry and assault units. Infact, there are no weaknesses I can currently think of that the Immortal has. As I continued to dozens of times with the Protoss race of Starcraft 2, I figured out several tactics with the Immortal. Also, the Immortal is a perfect replacement for the Dragoon, as well along side with the Stalker. One tactic I learned is a great combination of Zealots /w Charge, Stalkers /w Blink, and Immortals /w Hardened Shield to use in any type of battle. Nullifier - B- Stats via Game Guide The Nullifier is a very unique spell caster. It's the only spellcaster that doesn't always require micro. When in battle, you can either choose to have the Nullifier attack, or you can use micro for spellcasting. One very familiar ability is Force Field, which allows you to create a half-sphere of psionic energy. Force Field works great as a defensive barricade or either as an offensive blockade. Trust me, you'll always want at least one Nullifier in your battles /w full upgraded abilities. Colossus - F Stats via Game Guide There really are no great qualities for the current build of the Colossus. It's expensive, it's a high tier, and it's vulnerable. The Colossus's attack only affects ground light units. If countered against heavy units, the Colossus won't stand a chance. The only capability you may be interested in is that the Colossus can walk up and down cliffs. Warp Prism - B Stats via Game Guide The Warp Prism is a very big step in transportation. The abilities and tactics are countless for this unit. Its best capability is Warp In, which allows you to instantly summon a new unit into the battlefield as it is deployed in Phase Mode. Speaking of Phase Mode, it can also supply power to buildings which can summon up plenty of tactics that you have no idea of. Mothership - A Stats via Game Guide The Mothership; It's name represents superiority. This aerial city is a highly recommenced unit to bring into any battle because it will never let you down. With high HP and shields, and high attack damage, the Mothership is capable of much more. The proper use of a Mothership requires much micro mainly because it's a precious unit and it has a large verity of abilities. As Vortex remains an offensive ability, Cloaking Field and Timebomb are a defensive ability. I used this unit a couple of times during the demo, it never let me down. Stalker - A- Stats via Game Guide The Stalker is the definition of ambusher. These so called, 'Dark Templar Dragoons' are filled with great and useful tactics. As you use the Stalker, you will slowly begin to learn the basics of how useful its Blink ability is. Blink allows you to teleport short distances with a short duration cooldown. Either if you are raiding a base, ambushing workers, or retreating from your opponent, the Blink will always be handy for when you least expect it, so be prepared to micro it as much as possible. Phoenix - D Stats via Game Guide With the removal of the Overload ability, the Phoenix has now become a useless air-superiority fighter for the Protoss. The new ability that the Phoenix wields is Anti-Gravity, which allows the Phoenix to immobilize and cast a ground unit as an air unit, yet at the same time the Phoenix becomes immobilized itself. That makes no sense if you think about it because the Phoenix only targets air units but is immobilized during the Anti-Gravity spell. The Phoenix has a decent attack damage and flies extremely fast through the skies. Others Probe - Still cute; A Probe can create an entire empire on its own. Zealot - Still the mighty, still courageous. Zealot is much more capable of kicking ass. Dark Templar - With two different models, the Dark Templar still remains an epic assassin. Observer - Can you say spy? Because the Observer is the next James Bond (Wow that's a shitty joke ^^ oi). Carrier - The Build Interceptor ability has now become an auto-cast ability, and the Carrier is summoned with 4 Interceptors. Void Ray - A great assault unit for base raiding, and a great support unit in battle. High Templar - These psionic wizards are still the massive microing spell casters as they always have been. Archon - Less expensive, more powerful. What more can you ask for from such a kickass unit? |

I'd vote for him.
I'm just rather worried that it's making the Colossus obsolete, especially after it got hit very hard by a stray nerf ball. I mean, look at the thing. It's too cool to suck that much.
Blizzard, I swear I will never play any of your games again if you do not give the Phoenix back Overload.

I agree, I only wish the Colossus didn't suck so much. Blizzard should even out the capabilities between the Immortal and Colossus to make them both evenly awesome.

Er! Why do I keep thinking it's 200 and 40?? It's 270 and 80... Wow 350 total? That's so much for the Immortal. ^^ oi |

I'm too obsessed of the unit models, and I think the Immortal should have 2 huge badass cannons like the artwork instead of having 4 light ones cause it looks like firing bullets at a huge bulletproof metal wall, so what do u think?

@Ghost - I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to see the Immortal have back his two cannons, rather than 4 puny cannons. ^^ oi

totally...the colossus is nothing more than a big towering fodder....lacks health compared to earlier versions (can you see how fast they get destroyed in demos?) and also very crappy attack (can you also see that they barely destroy any unit before they get pulverized to blue wisps?)
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DAMAGE sounds like it is going to replace POWER OVERWHELMING as the god mode cheat.
