Seeing as how some of you were having problems connecting via Hamachi, I took the liberty of making a quick and small guide on how both ForceBindIP and Hamachi should be setup so you can play StarCraft.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First make sure you have everything you need: - StarCraft: Brood War v1.16.1 (you can still run older versions with this) - Hamachi (click to download v1.0.3, 989kb) - ForceBindIP (click to download v1.2's files, 11kb) MAC USERS DOWNLOAD HERE: - Hamachix A comment from Flyinfart, Mac user:
Optional Setup for Windows, by Dreadwave:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Configuration Steps (Windows): 0- Install Hamachi 1- Configure Hamachi & ForceBindIP: - Run Hamachi once installed: ![]() - Skip the tutorial, turn the power on: ![]() - Click the 1st button located on the bottom right corner: ![]() - Select "Join an existing network": ![]() - Enter the network's name & password: ![]() Click for SC2Armory's Hamachi Ladder Once you are in you should be able to see the other players, as well as your IP address (assigned to you by Hamachi). ![]() NOTE: --NETWORKS IN THIS SCREENSHOT ARE EXAMPLES THAT NO LONGER EXIST-- 2- Make sure both ForceBindIP files, BindIP.dll and ForceBindIP.exe, are located in your windows/system32 folder: ![]() 3- In order to tell your computer to run StarCraft by using ForceBindIP, you are going to need a special command line. There are 2 options you can try: Option #1: right-click your desktop, select "New", and then "Shortcut". Paste the command line and save. Option #2: open your notepad, paste the command line and save as a .bat file. This is the command line you need to open the game with ForceBindIP: %windir%system32forcebindip.exe (your hamachi IP) "your StarCraft folder and executable" Here's a screenshot and an example on what your command line should look like (click the link provided, whole image doesn't fit): ![]() 4- Make sure any firewalls running are not blocking ForceBindIP, Hamachi or StarCraft. 5- Asuming Hamachi is running as described on step #1, run the command line specified in step #3, and it should open StarCraft using ForceBindIP. You need to open the game with this application or you might not be able to see hosted LAN games. 6- Go to "Multiplayer", "StarCraft Expansion", "Local Area Network (UDP)": ![]() 7- After selecting your profile game, you should be able to see any games created by the host, or host your own. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Troubleshooting: Setup: If your StarCraft game is not opening with the command line: make sure you have both files in your system32 folder (Vista asks for permission), and that the correct paths are specified. If your StarCraft game is crashing: try running the game without ForceBindIP. Sometimes that works, and it doesn't seem to be entirely necessary. Gameplay: If your StarCraft game is opening, but you don't see any games under Multiplayer: - make sure Hamachi is running, that you are connected to the right network, and that your firewall is allowing the game and Hamachi. - try double-clicking or right-click-then-ping your opponent's name in Hamachi, to see if you can connect. If problems still persist, try switching hosting (if you hosted 1st, let your opponent host the game instead). If you still cannot see the game, try asking for a 3rd player to host. Remember that the host needs to be in the same network as you in order to see it. - make sure ports 6112 to 6119 are opened in your router. If the game is lagging: - assuming your connection is fine (check 1st!) if your download/upload bandwidth is not that good, having more than 1 player at a time in the game (like a 2v2 or FFA) might give you some problems. Try going into "Options", "Network", "Extra High Latency" and see if this solves the problem. - if you and the other players have already done this and it still lags, you can try having someone else host, or find the person that is lagging everyone else. - don't forget to turn off any applications that might lag your internet connection! If you lag, everyone else lags, even if you are just an observer :). - make sure all players are ON THE SAME NETWORK! It seems that if players are seeing the same host, but they are on different networks, they will lag the game, even if just observing - if some other players have already joined but some have not, and they don't see it, have someone who has already joined to disconnect and reconnect to refresh the session Example: Player A is in Network #1 & 2. Player B is in Network #1. Player C is in Network #3. Player A hosts a game. Players B & C see the game and join. Since Players B & C are on different networks, they will lag the game, even though Player A is in both. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll gladly assist in any way I can. |

It sounds like it might be related more to your connection than Hamachi itself. There are 2 rooms available. Join the 2nd one. As long as your opponent is also in the same room, you'll be able to see his game. |

Looking real quick in Google I found this:
That has never really happened to me. I woudl recommend trying to delete that file 1st see if it works (make a backup before you do it though, just in case). Source: http://www.opentechsupport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5622 |

Hmm doesn't work. Although nice find, be very useful for occasion where battle.net crashes (which it does now and again).
Intrestingly enough it doesnt crash if i dont start starcraft through forcebind ip (and games still show up). Is force bind ip neccerary? |

This thread has been updated (sorry for double-posting). Hamachi networks were removed (they no longer exist). To find a Hamachi network try here.
An additional troubleshooting item regarding crashes has been added. Hamachi link and version have been updated. |

You can try using just the Hamachix application for Mac users, described by Flyinfart here (last post on that page). PS: I have included the "MAC Hamachi" link. |
