RULES OF OP TOPICS!!!

THIS ARTICLE IS FOR YOU WHO DO OP TOPICS OR THINK OF DOING ONE
Here are the things to consider before you do OP topics -Minerals -Vespene -Supply -Hit points -Build time -Attack -Bonus Attack Damage -Attack Speed -Defense -Speed -Range -Upgrades -Ability's -Attacks Ground -Attacks Air -Attacks Both -Special unit Traits -Tier -Buildings needed before can access unit -Time to Build buildings needed -Consider what may be happening on battlefield beforehand -Are you sacrificing workers or workers time needed to build buildings -On what type of map -Against what unit -How does the countering unit fare against this unit -How well do other units work with this particular unit -How do they work with other of this particular unit -Is it a "this unit vs that unit" type scenario (or variation of this) ect ect ect for example: the marauders are so dang OP against the Stalkers topic violates about any of the bottom rules because marauder is the counter for stalker, marauder cant hit air and it's stim ability is equal to the blink ability so in full the marauder should win full out against a stalker (don't forget stalker also gets warp in and faster shield regeneration and it is not its role to creme a marauder while zealots will be able to shred them) I just feel so tired of these OP topics without full cause. Most people see one BR and suddenly its "OH THIS IS SO OP". even when it is the exact counter for that specific unit and they should crush them easily (this is where strategy is involved instead of all out power like in sc,bw) So the next time you are going to do an OP topic Take into consideration at least all that I listed and If you compare it to another unit take into consideration ALL of the other units ability's traits and not just it's stats (EDIT: Circus of Values did bring up at least one thing that should be nerfed......DAVID KIM!!!! HE IS SO DANG OP!!! LOL) |

Thank you for pointing some things that should be, but are not, taken into consideration. Just for the record, I think that corruptors are OP against broodlords... ;) JK

Thanks for making this topic! Sometimes the effectiveness of a unit can blind us to believe they are OP, but forget that It is entirely situational, depending on the list you made there.

Umm, you forgot the biggest one there.
How about, you know, maybe who's playing the game? Remember, David Kim is far superior in gameplay to pretty much anyone.
Seen my map?
Note: No longer adheres to the petty rules laid down by mankind. By god, if I feel like devouring babies, then babies shall be devoured. |

So David Kim is OP, yes.
But Random, I know you're random but you posted 2 topic about OP topics within the last 2 days... oO that's a lil OP there... You can always combine ur old topic or post again in ur old topic... It's almost as annoying as 10 different BR4 threads... <3 Take that into consideration next time. =) |

I did take it into consideration
one was a poll of whether OP topics were annoying the answer to that was yes they were annoying unless it was truely called for this topic is about what people should ponder on before they make a OP topic that way we should get more quality topics that are much more thought out so in a nut shell first one is, "is it annoying" (YES unless called for) this one (what you should ponder on so there will be less spam) |

Nice article/brainstorm, Random. Even though I have no personal objection to these topics, it would be nice to have some better quality in the discussion starters, rather than just "nukes are OP," or something like that.

Bump.
This should be part of the rules or sticked. I hate how people are calling OP on hard counters (someone has a funny rock-paper-scissor analogy in their signature) especially on the marauder/thor vs armored (colossi/stalkers). The funny thing is, the marauders/thors actually LOST their battles (except for the last one) because there were so many protoss units attacking them (the commenter said something like "the protoss are using all the wrong unit combination, but are just pouring in so much firepower that they overwhelm the terran marauder/thor strike force). |

Mods should just start to close these "op" threads with "Not enough intelligible information was gathered for this topic to matter, Locked." I think people should have their say on why units may be more powerful than others (its only alpha, I'm sure of imbalances), but seriously, starting a thread with two sentences and the word op does not spark much for a serious discussion.

How about you little babies stop making OP topics until you actually play the fucking game.

I agree with OP (original poster), but not that OP (overpowered) topics are useless altogether. Xmaine, you just bluntly stated an opinion without backing it up, which is why a lot of OP topics are hated on, not because of the often meaningful content.
When you say OP, you should be at least considering all the things Random has suggested and possibly a few more, like whether the strength of this unit is supposed to be characteristic of its race. When you do this, however, and you are then still able to form a comprehensive argument, you are probably making a decent thread. Say NO to OP spam. Say YES to rational discussion.

I agree. op topics aren't wasteful and annoying, they become so when there is not enough valid arguments. and while people may not have played the game yet, perhaps they can still provide sound reasoning like unit stats, strats, etc. perhaps another problem we have is that some people interpret everything as an op topic. some people just would like to ask about some ability, and then people already thinks the poster claims the mentioned ability is op. we do not only need to regulate the op posts, but how people interpret a thread as an op thread as well.
