Ever play SupCom? Radar works very similarly to how this sensor tower seems to work, and it was EXTREMELY valuable. One direct benefit is you can have a sensor tower behind your siege tanks and still be able to make use of the max range of the siege tanks.
That being said, these questions are downright horrible. I don't care if you're calling it radar or sensor tower, who cares? But I guess that's a symptom of having such visibility into the game that we already know most everything. |

They never answer the good ones, or if they do, they are incomplete or dont reveal anything new.
In that case, why not ask something stupid like, "does SC2 have too many stunning spells?" instead of just figuring it out for yourself. |

I don't see the tower as reltively useless but is it some what, redundant? Yeah. I'd agree.
It's useful in the fact that atleast some information is some information. Since they don't give away their positions anymore you can have a little more free looking depending on where you place them. However, in the jist of a pro game, I doubt the towers will meet any practical standard of use for their just wasted resources for whatever else could've been built. My biggest complaint about the tower is that A: Xel'Naga watch towers already provide poxy LoS information, and reveal the actual units as well so they provide BETTER info. For free. B: Missile Turrets might not detect as far but they still provide LoS AND Detection abilities. Even better info that the Watch Tower. It's aksi way cheaper and provides AA Defensive fire. C: Terran's have Comsat. It might not be permanent information and it might waste a mule or 2 to cast it, but that allows you a large radius of LoS, even up cliffs and past LoS Blockers (INCLUDING Detection Ability) ANYWHERE needed. No sneaking a damned SCV to build a Sensor Tower behind the enemy or whatever. Just Sweep the area and reveal everything. All for a sample of energy that infinitely regenerates. |

A) yes but they are only located in certain places and that seems to only be on the middle of the map (are not the sides of a map important?) B) yes it does but the sensor tower has so much more area awareness that then you would then have enough time to then back up the missile turrets that are under attack with some units (the sensor tower wont have a tiny bit bigger radius then the missile turret we are talking about a 2 to 3 times larger area C)yes it does waste mules and shows everything but it is a TEMPORARY thing while the Sensor tower is a full time job... not to mention the sensor tower has a larger radius then the comsat lets just say that if you stratigically place like 4 sensor towers around the map then fear not he wont be able to sneeze without you sensing it (you might not see the units but you know where they all are which is just as good) seriously if you see a bunch of blinking dots floating in the air (over a pit) it is a good chance then that you would want to build some heavy anti air |

Gear, are you reading this?! Oh, wait! You can't help! You were the one using the sensor tower!!! Random and everyone else... at BlizzCon you COULD SEE THE LIMITS OF RANGE OF ALL SENSOR TOWERS/SIEGE TANKS (yes, Knee, sad but true...) so like uhmm if you "strategically" place em all over the map, I'll know exactly where (center of the "circle") and "strategically" take them out! ^^ Basically, if they keep the stupid "range indicator" for tanks/sensor towers, you might as well use neither... oO if they don't then DAMN! All bad... lol |

The tank can't fire into the fog of war. Only where there is sight. So you may know that there are 20 units comming at you, but you can't shoot them unless you can see them. You know what else costs 100 minerals and 100 vespene? A dropship. Which gives you line of sight for your tanks and unit mobility for your tanks as seen in BR4. I would always rather a medivac over a sensor tower. @Knee Pfft, yours was a much better write up. lol i just quoted the whole article off SClegacy hence it's messyness ^^ Thats why i made this one all pro looking. :P |

i think that detecting invisibles as well as seeing units through the fog of war must have been a little bit to powerful, because it definitely made more sense when it detected invisibles as well, but oh well, as long as the game is balanced.
Don't worry, Starcraft 2 is still coming out.

Don't want the Sensor tower - fine - cause there's a trade off i'd like to propose:
--> We Zergs will give you the Changeling and you go scout with it, and give us the ST, and we'll soon see who will more satisfied with it.. At least won't need to take care to micro the scouting.. :)))))) Oh and one more thing - the salvage thing is the lamest thing ever happened.. W.T.F. Terran ?? --> Oh shit my bunker's under atk - salvage.. The ST is under attack - salvage.. Damn lame - you can spam bunkers all over the place and yet still not regreat the bits out of it.. You still can't suffer a thing from bad decision making - just because being a Terran.. Come on.. And still regreat the ST not being useful Maybe have overreacted a bit, but the damn Bunker FOR SURE, and the Sensor MAYBE shouldn't be salvage-able at all.. I mean really AT ALL - It's really lame not to get punised at all by that..
