Sorry, but i think i did not really understood what you are asking: Are you asking for any ideas about cliffjumping? (Its progress, units able to, effects in gamelplay, etc)

No.
I'm simply proposing that in addition to the current cliffjumpers, we also get the Roach and the Infester as Zerg cliffjumpers. Basically that would be enough.

So are you saying the VIking should require an upgrade to fly? I thought a recent batch said they came with that upgrade. The Viking "MUST" come with either a GtA attack or the ability to fly upon being built.
Zerg don't need a cliff hopper. The Mutalisk is the cheapest AtG unit and hits multiple targets. Plus they can get line of sight from all of the overlords they have so no problem with seeing up cliffs to attack with basic units. Plus late game, Nydus worm gets you anywhere on the map and unless detected can't be attacked. |

As far as I'm informed, this is what the story is: You need a Factory to build Vikings. However they would come as mechs only. In order to research the Aerial Mode, you have to have the Starport add-on, whatever its name is. It's like Siege Tanks, but Siege Tanks require the Factory add-on to be build + the Siege Mode is researchable in that add-on. It's not about seeing. It's about fast transporting of ground units over the cliff. And Mutalisk is not an option since it's cheap and weak against many defensive structures. This is transport you're talking about. Transport is different.

Batch 33 says built from Starport. Although I remember someone saying it had changed but that the transform upgrade came with the Viking. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can provide correct info.
Ok I didn't understand your original post then. I thought you were presenting the Zerg as needing "cliff-hoppers" for combat. If you just want them for the sole purpose of cool factor then watever. My argument was that from a battle stand point they are not needed because of overlord sight and mutalisk effectiveness. |

Terran and protoss should have units that can burrow :P Zerg do!
I agree Mutalisks are great harassment units, I think that a cliffjumper won't hurt the zerg, but if they don't have it, I guess they'll have something to compensate or the community will complain. :) |

[quote="RigorMortis"] ZERG 1) Roach - would be able to "fly" up and down cliffs, but only up and down cliffs. Not a real flyer itself. No research required 2) Infester - would be able to move while burrowed, thus up and down under the cliffs. Would however require a research to be able to move underground.

That's what I heard on battle.net too. But then Karune said it's back to the Factory. Either that or I'm mistaken again, but who cares anyway? This topic is not about where the Viking comes from. I'm just saying some units need to have cliffjumping. In every race. No matter what the strategies are.

Do you suggest anti-cliffjumpers then? Roaches that punch jumping Reapers in the face so they fall back?

TERRAN
1) Reaper - jumps up and down cliffs using his jetpacks, does not need any upgrade for it (am I correct?)
2) Viking - can overcome cliffs by transforming itself into aerial mode and then back. Requires the transforming upgrade as comes only in warmech mode.
PROTOSS
1) Stalker - can "blink" up and down cliffs. Not sure if needs to research the Blink ability first...
2) Colossus - can simply walk over cliffs and back down. No upgrade required.
ZERG
1) Roach - would be able to "fly" up and down cliffs, but only up and down cliffs. Not a real flyer itself. No research required
2) Infester - would be able to move while burrowed, thus up and down under the cliffs. Would however require a research to be able to move underground.
I think it would be a good idea to allow the Infester at least to move past terrain heights while burrowed.
